The history of the Tipo 916 series

After Fiat took over Alfa Romeo in 1986, development began on a new Spider and a new sports coupé to succeed the GTV. Fiat commissioned Pininfarina with the design, and the decision was made early on in favour of a design by Enrico Fumia. Both models made their debut together at the Paris Motor Show in October 1994 and were built in three series – Phase 1, Phase 2 and Phase 3 – until 2004.
